LinkedIn

why your look matters

Headshot of a woman for LinkedIn Profile

Your customers or potential employers look at your photo and form an opinion about you or your company in less than 1 second. A good LinkedIn photo humanizes your profile and makes you appear more approachable. Statistics from LinkedIn show members who include a photo receive up to 21 times more profile views and up to 36 times more messages.  Uploading a quality photo to your profile will help you make the right impression and attract people's attention; maximizing the number of people who view your profile.

TIP #3: LOOK FRIENDLY AND APPROACHABLE

Choose a background that is uncluttered and in no way distracting. Solid colours are usually best.

TIP #2: USE AN UNCLUTTERED BACKGROUND

This is not the platform to use selfies or cutouts from other photos. It is also not a place to upload your company logo as your profile photo. Nor is it a place to show you holding your kids, hanging at the beach or playing with your dog.
Get a professional photo taken. It will be well worth it! Your appearance matters and taking your business seriously will send the best impression to your potential viewers! Wear clothes that compliment your industry as well as your body shape and form. Colours and styles should be true to who you are and your personality.

TIP #1:  LOOK PROFESSIONAL

Eyes communicate in so many ways and so look into the camera, as if you were chatting to a good friend. Oh, and don't wear sunglasses! Smile! Because smiles are free and people are more inclined to want to connect to a friendly face than a miserable one. Research shows a smile showing some teeth is considered more competent, likeable and influential than a smile with the mouth closed. Your head should take up 60% of the photo so your face can be seen on smaller views of your profile.

Headshot of a man for a LinkedIn Profile

You don't get a second chance to make a first impression, and your LinkedIn profile photo is usually the first (and sometimes only) chance you have to impress a potential client or customer.

So take it seriously!    Better photos get you noticed!

LinkedIn profiles with professional headshots are known to attract more profiles views. Let's face it, you are asking potential clients and customers to spend money with you or your company, so you need to look the part.  A professional, high-quality headshot shows you're serious, competent and able to deliver on what you're promising.

Your photographer will have the skills to setup good lighting and guide you through the poses. Retouching is usually included in the offering and good editing will improve colour balance and eliminate skin imperfections. It can also enhance the overall look of your image, by fine tuning the contrast, sharpness and saturation.

TIP #5: HIRE A PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHER

Your photo choice should be your best choice but using an outdated photo will make you look less experienced. Some professionals, like actors,  need to update their headshots a lot more frequently.

TIP #4: USE A RECENT PHOTO
